Glem hall chair

Glem hall chair

Inspired by Georgian & Regency hall chairs, The Glem is an up-to-date take on the distinctive back shapes which define the type of chair. Originally ‘placed in halls, for the use of servants or strangers waiting on business’ (Sheraton, 1803) These chairs often made a statement and included coats of arms or family crests. Today, these chairs still work wonderfully in hallways, beside a hallstand or console table. Or alternatively, in any room of the house as a statement piece or splash of colour.

Construction & customisation

All of my chairs are hand crafted from solid hardwoods. Painted chairs are made in solid American cherry (Prunus serotina), chosen for its ideal balance of strength, lightness and paintability. I use a high-grade enamel furniture paint, which can be colour-matched to any shade from the manufacturer of your choice.

For my oak chairs, I work with prime-grade European or English oak (Quercus robur), selected for the character and tone best suited to each piece. They are finished with a hard-wax oil, which can be tinted to a range of tones to achieve the desired finish.

Other timbers and finishes are available upon request.
