Deben settle

Deben settle

Occasionally there is a location in a room where only a settle will complete the space – be it along the kitchen table as the most convivial form of seating, in the entrance hallway as a place to take your boots off, or in the drawing room with a stack of magazines at one end. The Deben settle elegantly spans the gap between chair and sofa, providing a adaptable piece of furniture that may work where nothing else will.

There is also the option to have a shoe/boot rack below the main seat.

  • Seat height  45.5cm
  • Seat width at widest point  made to suit
  • Seat depth  40.5cm
  • Total back height  84cm
  • Arm height  68.5cm

Construction & customisation

All of my chairs are hand crafted from solid hardwoods. Painted chairs are made in solid American cherry (Prunus serotina), chosen for its ideal balance of strength, lightness and paintability. I use a high-grade enamel furniture paint, which can be colour-matched to any shade from the manufacturer of your choice.

For my oak chairs, I work with prime-grade European or English oak (Quercus robur), selected for the character and tone best suited to each piece. They are finished with a hard-wax oil, which can be tinted to a range of tones to achieve the desired finish.

Other timbers and finishes are available upon request.
